Registered Psychologist

Irina Tarasenco, R. Psych.

My greatest reward as a therapist is helping my clients discover their strengths and inner resourcefulness and help them explore ways to make the changes in their lives that will allow them to look into the future with hope.

I am not what has happened to me. I am what I choose to become.                                                                                                             - Carl Jung

All my life I have been interested in people and their life situations  and I express a genuine interest in the clients I serve. I strive to provide a safe and peaceful space in which clients can explore new ways of thinking and learn new coping skills.

I provide therapy for mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD, PTSD, OCD, sex addiction, as well as support overcoming life challenges and transitions including relationship struggles.

I use a variety of treatment techniques depending on the needs of the individual client, as well as the nature of the issue being addressed. Among the approaches used during treatment are: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, paradoxical and mindfulness based interventions, solution focused principles, DBT, gestalt, family systems and systemic therapy techniques.

I am a Registered Psychologist in the province of British Columbia (#2357) and Alberta (#4452).

My educational background includes a Master's Degree in Psychosocial Intervention and Psychotherapy and B.A. In Psychology.

Prior to my private practice in Kelowna, my most recent experience was at a Community Mental Health Agency where I worked with clients of all ages in individual, group and family settings. I was privileged to work with a wide range of clients, including individuals living with mood and anxiety disorders, PTSD, sex addiction, OCD, ADHD, and personality disorders. I was involved in providing Suicidal Intervention Services to remote communities as well as Social Skills training to adolescents.

I work with ages 16 and up and I approach each client, couple or family with an open heart and mind. I believe that a supportive, caring, and honest relationship with each client is of the utmost importance and I strive to maintain a present, compassionate, and open-minded consciousness throughout the therapy process.

If you feel that you are ready to commit to bringing about positive change in your life, I encourage you to take that first step. Together we will develop goals you want to reach and create a plan on how to get there.
